“The Wait” Update Grandma-EV, May 1, 2024June 30, 2024 The struggle is real – Just when I was starting to accept that we were not going to get a Silverado EV RST 2024 First Edition, things started to look up. Since we ordered in March we have been checking our order status on the chatbot on the Chevrolet.com website. I would check first thing every day and again sometime in the afternoon or evening. Evidently, my husband was doing the same thing. We didn’t realize for a while that we were duplicating efforts but finding out didn’t stop our compulsive checking. That’s 4 hits to the chatbot a day! The process involved entering one of our first names, our last name, then cutting and pasting our alphanumeric order number into the chatbot with the phrase “order status”. So many times it came up saying “Your order has been submitted by your dealer but has not officially been accepted by GM at this time.” The Silverado EV forum seemed to think this was because reservations sold out that first day in January 2022 in like 12 minutes. I reserved in May of 2022, so they were sure I was at the end of the queue and not likely to get a 2024. I consoled myself by thinking, “Well, if we have to wait until the 2025s come out, we can pick a color, get a native NACS charge port, and maybe leave off some options.” (The only option I’d leave off is the glass roof) Still, we continued to hope. We have been obsessing over all the Silverado videos on YouTube. Charging videos, V2H videos, and more. We have bought swag. I bought myself a ball cap, then a couple of Silverado EV Shirts for both of us, Then, the Out of Spec Ocean to Ocean race shirt came out! It was so cool, a great design and we loved and watched the whole, long race. Even better, the Silverado WT won! So, of course, I had to buy those shirts for both of us. If that wasn’t enough, I then found a shirt with a full back picture of the truck, and just like that, we each had 3 shirts each. Mine has the “fully charged battery” on the back shoulder. My husband’s shirt, a size larger, doesn’t have the battery. I kinda love this! Not done yet… Grandpa-EV had a birthday in late April and so I bought him the truck… a Hot Wheels, Silverado EV RST as a birthday gift! None of this is helping the wait pass more easily. It is just a tease making it more excruciating. The Good News- A week or so ago, GM Energy called us to talk about setting up an appointment with Qmerit to discuss charger installation. We gave them all of our information but have not heard back from Qmerit. [UPDATE} We heard back from Qmerit on 5/1/24, and their preliminary installation estimate is $1400, based on a vague online survey. I understand that GM reimburses $1000 of the installation. We won’t know more until they actually come out and eyeball our electrical system. Then on 4/29/24 we bugged the dealer again and finally got a call back. They basically said, “Don’t worry that GM has not accepted your order, that just means they are not making one specifically for you. We (the dealership) have an allotment of 11 that we are expecting maybe around the end of May-ish. We have one of those earmarked for you. If you want to firm that up, come in and make a $500 deposit.” So, now we are back to a headspace where we think the 2024 is going to happen for us and we are contemplating putting down the deposit. On 4/30/24, for the first time in weeks, I didn’t check our order status with the Chevy chatbot first thing in the morning. I didn’t feel I needed to check after what the dealer said. But by evening I thought, “What the heck”, and plugged in the order number! Lo and behold! the order is accepted. (Am I getting two trucks now? hahaha) Screenshot of the Chevy chatbot. Just when I had resigned to waiting for a 2025, I am again planning summer EV road trips. Another visit to Bosie? Disneyland with the grandkids? So many possibilities. Stay tuned!
