Anticipation Grandma-EV, March 31, 2024April 12, 2024 Grandpa-EV and I are very excited at the prospect of getting our Silverado RST EV 2024 First Edition. We have been waiting a long time. We reserved our Silverado EV on 5/21/2022. We then endured months, turning into years of delays. Finally, on 3/12/2024, we were able to order… any color as long as it was black. I can’t lie, I’m a lot disappointed that I couldn’t get that beautiful electric blue color. But, we just couldn’t wait anymore so we came to terms with it. Let me back up and introduce myself. I’m Grandma-EV. I’m a science, tech, computers, solar, electric car and other such geek. I love bleeding-edge technology. I also care about the planet and try to do my part. We live North of San Francisco, in the Sonoma County CA Wine Country. At the time of this writing, I have two wonderful grandbabies and one on the way. Grandpa-EV, my hubby, is like-minded. So, know that he is included even if I say “I” and not “we”. He is in the background helping to edit and provide content. It is just going to be easier to use my singular voice, most of the time. I didn’t come to electric cars all-at-once. It has been a slow build-up over the years. I’ve leased a Prius hybrid; then a Chevy Volt plug-in hybrid, the first model; and then the second model version. Since the Fall of 2018, I own a 2019 Chevy Bolt, now with the battery replacement. I love my Bolt! I love charging at home from our solar and not needing gas. Yes, I’m a fanatic and a cheerleader for BEVs (battery electric vehicles). Hybrids are just a tease… but that is a WHOLE other discussion! I don’t ever want to buy another ICE (internal combustion engine) vehicle! This is why I have been desperate to replace my big vehicle. We camp. We haul building materials for home projects. We tow sailboats and a heavy, 2-axle, utility trailer. We have a family cabin, in the California Redwoods, that’s at the end of a long, challenging, high-center dirt road, …that’s to say, you don’t want to take your average, around-town car on the cabin road. Some of our trips are for hundreds of miles at a time. We’ve always had a Suburban or a full-size, 8-seat, SUV for these tasks. We’ve wanted to replace our ICE tow/haul/camp/cabin vehicle, with a BEV. We currently drive a 2008 Toyota Sequoia, which is on its last legs. There doesn’t exist a full-size e-SUV that fits the bill. So we’re going to try a pickup truck as the next best thing. We have looked into the Ford F-150 Lightning and Rivian. We even looked into the Cybertruck, though not super seriously. We didn’t feel like any of the other trucks could handle the load weights, tow capacity, and distance that we needed. The decision was made to get a Silverado RST EV, and then the long, torturous wait began… Since we will be early adopters of a brand-new vehicle, in an emerging technology, we thought you might like to share our journey? So buckle up and settle in for an electric road trip with us! Grandma-EV Share this:FacebookX Discover more from Grandma-EV Subscribe to get the latest posts sent to your email.
